⇒FLEXE, subst. fém.
MUS. RELIG. [Dans la psalmodie] Repos intermédiaire marqué par une inflexion d'un ton ou d'une tierce mineure, au milieu du premier membre du verset d'un psaume, lorsque ce verset est trop long. Anton. médiante. La flexe, dans le courant d'un verset, se fait en fléchissant la voix d'une seconde ou d'une tierce (DUPRÉ, Manuel accompagn. plain-chant grégor., [ca 1925], p. 87).
— P. méton. Signe graphique de cette pause, désignée par une croix. Chez nous la division des Psaumes en Versets et le partage des Versets par les flexes ou les astérisques sont une notation de même nature [abrégée] (POTHIER, Mélod. grégor., 1890, p. 22).
Prononc. :[]. Étymol. et Hist. 1844 (CHATEAUBR., Rancé, p. 144). Empr. au lat. flexa part. passé subst. fém. de flectere « fléchir ».
